About
Jonah Amadeus Skurky-Thomas began his studies and love of art at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California in 1999 and upon graduation continued his educations of Film/Video and Ceramics at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he received his BFA in the spring of 2007. Following graduation, he worked and lived in Durango, Colorado where, supported by an amazing community, he began his life as a studio artist. In the fall of 2013 Jonah started his Graduate studies at Arizona State University where under the direction of Kurt Weiser, Susan Beiner, Sam Chung and Dan Collins he earned his MFA in may of 2016.
Jonah’s love of clay lies in its limitless uses and forms. Through it he can express his visions of illustration, sculpture, installation, object design and even the time arts. Though much of Jonah’s education was in film and video, ceramics has always been an important thread throughout his life.
Jonah has exhibited his work in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally, participated in juried exhibitions, and contributed work to many charitable events.
As a Graduate student Jonah has discovered a love of teaching and is enjoying giving back to the community and a culture that has supported him all his life.
